"Under the Red Cloud, the confident twelfth album, represents “the new sound” of Amorphis well."

If Amorphis didn’t exist, sooner or later someone would have come up with the idea of fusing rock with the epic tales of the Kalevala. However, the Helsinki-based group is one of the originators of Scandinavian death metal, not a cynical cash-in attempt. Under the Red Cloud, the confident twelfth album, represents “the new sound” of Amorphis well. Founding guitarists Esa Holopainen and Tomi Koivusaari lead the attack after 25 years and the versatile Tomi Joutsen takes metal singing to a new level.
