Convincing theme album

The American-Finnish musical tradition has been an inspiration for many musicians ever since the period of immigration. Now Aija Puurtinen and Esa Kuloniemi, known from the blues band Honey B & T-Bones, have composed a fine album to lyrics in English and Finglish (what an inspiring “language” for rhyming!). The red thread is more in the lyrics than in the compositions, ranging from folk to blues and jazz. There are touching moments, convincing storytelling and brilliant musicianship. Puurtinen is an impressive singer but in some pelimanni-style songs she could have let loose more bravely.
