Sparse elements, stunning beauty

by Timo Harjuniemi

"...it is a stunning album by one of the most interesting artists in the Finnish avant-garde underground. Throughout the album the listener is invited to witness how solitary and sparse elements create majestic soundscapes and dense emotional condensations."

LAU NAU: Hem. Någonstans

The fourth album by Laura Naukkarinen, a.k.a Lau Nau, is a soundtrack work for a similarly named documentary film by Lotta Petronella. Moreover, and most importantly, it is a stunning album by one of the most interesting artists in the Finnish avant-garde underground. Throughout the album the listener is invited to witness how solitary and sparse elements create majestic soundscapes and dense emotional condensations. Lonely notes glide over glacial surfaces and electro-acoustic drones disappear into beautiful voids. These utterly captivating ambient works are somewhat reminiscent of Mica Levi’s haunting soundtrack pieces for Jonathan Glazer’s Under the Skin.
