How can we know about music - Aspects of musicology in Finland

There is and has always been a tantalising mismatch between the non-conceptual entity that we know as music and scientific thinking. Musicology sits at the rich seam to be mined at the nexus between these two, and in Finland musicology has been instrumental in both building and explaining our strong national musical identity.
